Side money for charity?

is there a way for a person with a business (primarily one having to do with food) to organize money in order to feed the needy? Not only feediing, but also teaching individuals to fend for themselves (financially) in this world; you've heard the saying "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". May it be in the US or oversees? I'm talking about a method that could enable a renewable money income to allow the operation to not be a one one-time deal, but something that will last. Are there any government organizations that i could use? how dependable are those organizations such as "feed the children"? I'm just trying to get something started so any feedback will help greatly.
